William Morgan 'Bill' Carney, 78
DOVER - William Morgan "Bill" Carney, of Dover, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 78.
Bill was born on Sept. 25, 1930, in Port Washington, N.Y., son of the late William and Henricka Steltenkamp Carney.
He married his wife of 51 years Frances King Carney on Sept. 16, 1956, in Flushing, N.Y.
Bill had served his country proudly in the U.S. Army for 26 years retiring as master sergeant.
While living in Odenton, Md., for 18 years, Bill had worked for the State Health Department for 10 years as an inspector, retiring in 1989.
Bill was a life member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 160 of Glen Burnie, Md., a life member and unit commander of the Military Order of Cootie Pup Tent 3 of Glen Burnie, a member of DAV Chapter 13 of Severn, Md., and a member of American Legion Post 34 of Brooklyn Park, Md.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert W. Carney, Joseph T. Carney and Paul Carney; a sister, Margaret Carney; and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Carney.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Frances H. (King) Carney; four children, Robert W. Carney and his wife Tracey of Maryland, Kathleen Weber and her husband Edwin of Maryland, Margaret Rose Neveroski and her husband Frank of Florida, and William Morgan Carney Jr. of Louisiana; a brother, Edward Carney and his wife Marie of New York; two sisters, Ruth Stapleton and her husband Ed of New Jersey, and Madeline Brown and her husband Bill of New York; seven grandchildren, Emily Kelley of Arkansas, Matthew Carney of Maryland, Brandon Carney of Maryland, Suzanne Burgee of Maryland, Edwin Weber Jr. of Maryland, Jackie Torres of Texas, and Dustin Stewart of Louisiana; three great-grandchildren, Vincent Burgee IV of Maryland, Olivia Grace Kelley and Addison Greer Kelley, both of Arkansas; and his faithful companion, Tinkerbell.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Immaculate Conception Church, Main Street, Marydel, Md.
Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, Md.
