MILLINGTON, Md. - William H. Sproates Jr. of Millington died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, in Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 75.

Mr. Sproates was born March 10, 1932, son of the late William H. Sr. and Anna E. (Moffett) Sproates, and was raised in Massey on the family farm, Boxwood Place.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Sproates began his career General Motors, and later worked for Angelica Nursery, grafting plants. He continued working with plants at his parent"s nursery and family farm and also drove for Davidson Transfer.

He was preceded in death by his son, William "Billy" Sproates III; and an infant grandson, Shawn Paul Sproates.

Mr. Sproates is survived by four children, David Sproates Sr. and his wife Wanda of Dover, Anna Buzzard of Millington, Steven Sproates of Germany and Michael Sproates of Alaska; a brother, George Sproates of Millington; a sister, Betty Kelly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his companion of 30 years, Patricia Blanchfield of Millington; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11 a.m. Friday in St. Dennis" Roman Catholic Church, 153 N. Main St., Galena.

Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.
