William 'Bill' Gerber, 77
DOVER - William "Bill" Gerber passed away on December 17, 2020 at Kent General Hospital. William was born in New Haven, Conn., June 20, 1943, the son of Raymond and Viola Gerber and raised in Union City, N.J.
Bill graduated from Emerson High School and 40 years later went back to school to complete his degree from Wilmington University. William proudly served in the Air Force and Army. While in the service his assignments were Ft. Campbell, Ky., Ft Sill, Okla., and overseas tours Turkey and Germany. Mr. Gerber was a Load Master in the Air Force and was on the Globemaster aircraft that took pictures of Cuba during the Missile Crisis. These photos are believed to have avoided war.
After his service to our country he held various jobs; he went into the automotive industry and then traveled the eastern United States with his sausage wagon in tow. His last position was with the State of Delaware with Capital School District Transportation as a school bus aide for children of special needs. And he always had a newspaper route that he enjoyed immensely.
In his lifetime, he was an avid N.Y. Giants fan, a great bowler and loved his bingo and playing cards. In his younger years he would go hunting and fishing. When he cooked, all enjoyed his Italian flair dishes and his special occasion cakes were so excellent they became a nice side business for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet; daughter, Tandi Cook (Randall); his grandchildren, Andrew "Cookie" Cook and Brandy Haxton; great grandchildren, Lily and Lena; extended family and friends. He will be missed by his pet, Snowball, Princess, Tank, Harley & Roscoe.
