GEORGETOWN - William Eugene Hubbard of Georgetown died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, after a long illness. He was 66.
Mr. Hubbard was born in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Eugene Thomas Hubbard and Chris (Pennington) Seivers.
He began his career working as a commercial drapery salesperson for Milford Stitching.
Mr. Hubbard left Milford Stitching to open his own shoe repair business known as Bill's Shoe Repair, with three locations in Milford, Rehoboth Beach and Georgetown.
He owned the business for eight years before closing and going in as a partner with J.V. Industrial Machine Shop, Milford, which he operated for 10 years.
Mr. Hubbard left J.V. Industrial Machine Shop to work as a maintenance supervisor at Penn Fibre, Greenwood. Penn Fibre was one of the two largest plastics manufacturing plants in the world. Mr. Hubbard retired in 2007 after 10 years at Penn Fibre.
He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, Milford, and was a member of the Delaware Bass Federation, where he served as president of the federation for eight years.
Mr. Hubbard was also instrumental in developing and starting the first youth bass fishing team to include both boys and girls, known as the Junior Bass Fishermen.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Hubbard, in 1990, and Ted Hubbard, in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Kathy Hubbard; a son, Chris Hubbard of Camden-Wyoming; two brothers, Dennis Hubbard and his wife Pat of Georgetown and Chuck Hubbard and his wife Judy of Dayton; a sister, Brenda Boone of Florida; and two granddaughters, Morgan and Juliette Keesic.
A celebration of Bill's life will be 7 p.m. Thursday in the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may visit with the family one hour prior.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of choice.
