William Etley Berry
1943 – 2022
William Etley Berry (Bill) reeled in his last fishing line and walked away from the water on November 11th, 2022. The world's fish feel a little safer because Bill was one of the best to use a rod and reel.
On December 14th, 1943, the Lord broke the mold with Bill. He was born to the late Charles and Miriam Berry in Philadelphia and was the middle child of three. Bill went into the Navy after graduating from High School and became a Radioman on a nuclear submarine. He became the middle-weight boxing champion of the U.S. Navy and never lost in 38 fights. Bill worked for Septa for nearly 20 years before retiring to Delaware. In his retirement, Bill loved to fish, camp, golf and spend time with friends and family. He loved his dogs almost as much as fly fishing, especially his Shih Tzus.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, (Charles Berry) and wives (Mary Berry and Chong Harris). He is survived by his sister, (Mimi Dolan Sushinski); daughters, (Jennifer Palmer and Lisa Journey); four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Bill was one-of-a-kind and lived his life to the fullest. He had a wild side and loved to be a little ornery and mischievous. He enjoyed a good party and loved to eat crabs with sweet corn and drink a beer.
Bill was a Believer and a member of Faith Community Church in Camden, Delaware where you can come on Saturday, November 19th to celebrate his life and share some great stories. The address is 2240 S. Dupont Hwy, Dover DE 19901. The service will start at 10:00AM, and Paster John Roseti will preside.
