MILFORD - William Dennis Doran, 67, of Milford, passed away on Sunday, March 4, at Milford Memorial Hospital with loved ones at his side. Time on earth began for Dennis on July 19, 1944. He was the first son of the late William Doran Jr. and Gloria Lenore Baker Doran at the Portsmouth, Va., Naval Base while his father served in the Navy. As a child, he learned deep sea fishing with his grandfather Barkos Baker which turned into a money making proposition to pay for school. As a youth, he attended the Point Pleasant Beach, N.J. school system, and his class marched to the "new Antrim School." He graduated from PPBHS in 1962 and graduated Montclair State in NJ in 1966 as a history major. He studied at New York University and psychology at the Aerospace Safety and Management Department of the University of Southern California. On June 6, 1966, Dennis married Beverly Brown Walsh at the Woodstown Presbyterian Church in New Jersey. He volunteered for service in the US Army in 1966 and earned the rank of Sergeant and served as Training NCOIC, STRATCOM on Okinawa. He then began his career in fibers working for E. I. Du Pont at the Camden, South Carolina Plant. He was transferred to New York; Wynnewood, Pa.; Chattanooga, Tennessee and finally to Wilmington, Del. In 1979, Dennis began working for Pharr Yarns in New York and has been associated with them ever since. He served as a member of the American Arbitration Association and the Yarn Spinners Association. While in South Carolina Dennis and Beverly joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He has served as Sunday School President, Branch President, Stake High Counselor, member of Stake Presidency and is a High Priest. Dennis and Beverly had ten children- Amy, Chris, Katie, Connie, Mary, Jed, Bobby, Danny, Betsy and John Henry. Between work, commuting, reading, hunting, and running a Christmas tree farm he volunteered in Boy Scouts of America for 45 years, including 30 years of summer camp and National Jamborees. All five of his sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was awarded the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver. He is a member of Durand Lodge No. 179 F.&A.M. of Point Pleasant, N.J., and affiliated with Temple Lodge No. 9 A.F.&A.M. of Milford, Del., the East India Club in London, and the Sons of Norway. When his time ended here on earth he had been preceded by his parents, William and Gloria; his brother, Richard Kirchner; and his daughter, Constance. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; nine children, Amy Masten and spouse Rob, Christopher Doran and spouse Wendy, Katie Schiferl and spouse Matthew, Mary Teuscher and spouse Brad, James Doran and spouse Katrina, William Robert Doran and spouse Amanda, Daniel Doran, Elizabeth Beutler and spouse Kal, and John Henry Doran and spouse Jessica; his brother, Ronald Doran and spouse Rena; aunt, Jean Taylor; uncle, Jack Baker; and cousins, Kathy McLaughlin and spouse George, and Hope Knapp and spouse Michael. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca, Abigail and Sam Masten; Shane and Kaeli Doran; Dale, Amber, Joseph, Johanne and Otto Schiferl; Spencer, Madison, Leah, Aubrey and Garrett Teuscher; Kathryn Doran; Lillian, Sydney and William Thomas Doran; Gabe, Evelyn and Isabelle Beutler; and Kylie and Noah Doran. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10, at noon, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Lattter-day Saints in Harrington. Arrangements by Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford.
