William D."Skippy" Short, 70
CLAYTON - William D. "Skippy" Short of Clayton died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, in his home. He was 70.
Mr. Short was born on Sept. 10, 1936, in Wilmington, the son of the late William M. and June E. Short.
He stayed at home with his parents most of his life until going to live with his sister and brother-in-law in 1999.
Mr. Short was a regular fixture in the Clayton community, rocking on the front porch of his Main Street home.
He had many friends that he knew by name and even more that he would simply wave to every day. He was a very special person and never met a stranger.
Mr. Short enjoyed his family and watching TV.
He was especially fond of the ABC station and would not allow the TV to be changed from that station.
Mr. Short loved listening to the radio and rocking in his chair.
He was very fond of gospel music and was known to turn it up loudly for all to hear. More recently, he enjoyed his community of friends at DHCI in Smyrna.
Mr. Short is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Samuel Nickerson of Dover; two nieces, Dawne Nickerson of Dover and Wendy Bonney and her husband, Paul of Newark; and six great-nieces and nephews, Logan Nickerson and Brady Kovach, both of Dover, and Cameron, Hannah, Rachel and Jackson Bonney, all of Newark.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour before the services.
Flowers are welcome at the celebration, however, if you choose, donations can be made to the Delaware State Police Museum, P.O. Box 430, Dover, DE 19903.
