DOVER - William A. Schaefer, Sr., passed away, Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. Mr. Schaefer was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Dover, to the late Alphonse Schaefer and Frieda Altwater Schaefer. He graduated from Dover High School in 1943 and Pierce Business School in 1948, and married Frances (Froggy) Sarde on May 4, 1946. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and received a Bronze Star for action during the "Battle of the Bulge". Mr. Schaefer owned Schaefer Lincoln Mercury. He was past President of Maple Dale Country Club and loved golf, ocean fishing and traveling to all parts of the world. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Frances (Froggy) Schaefer; and his second wife, Joe-Anne Wilkins after 12 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Gayle Lorenz (Richard); son, William Jr. (Lynne); grandchildren, Todd (Nikki), Andrew Lorenz, and Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Kaden, Maisie and Lennon; cousin, Betty Willis (Bill). Services and burial will be private In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the U.S.O., 500 Purple Heart Way, D.A.F.B., Dover, DE 19902.
