Willard David Sturgis passed away in his home on Sept. 27, 2018 with his dedicated wife by his side.
Willard David was loved by family and friends. He was born on Oct. 28, 1947 to Williard William and Ruth Elizabeth Sturgis. He grew up in New Castle, was an altar boy at Our Lady of Fatima from 1st to 8th grade, attended Salesianum from 9th to 11th grade and graduated from William Penn Class of 1965. While he attended school, he played the accordion.
For many years he lived in the Bear area until moving to Millsboro in 2003. Willard, who was lovingly referred to as "Dave" or "David", is survived by his wife and best friend, Gayle; five adult children, Michelle Ann Falla and husband Brian, Bett David Sturgis; stepsons, Shaine, Dustin and Ryan; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Daniel Eugene Sturgis, Stephen Joseph Sturgis and wife Bonnie, Paul Gerald Sturgis and wife Brenda; one sister, Ellen Marie Saienni and husband Michael; along with many nieces and nephews and one great grandson on the way. In addition, he has one sister, Linda Jane Kalmbacher, who is now in Heaven.
Dave was a plumber and belonged to local Plumbers and Pipefitters 74. He worked on many projects and new buildings over the years. Dave also served in the Air National Guard as head cook for six years. He loved many things like traveling to Florida with his wife, watching football, gardening, playing gin rummy and walking his dog Bennie. Dave was an avid sports fanatic, whether he was playing or watching his favorite teams. He also loved having conversations with his siblings and friends. Dave was a generous man. As a Catholic who proudly confessed Jesus as the son of God, he knew he wanted to go to Heaven and be reunited with his family someday. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a service at 12 p.m. in the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro.
You made your final touch down and went straight to the pearly gates. We are proud to call you Husband, Brother, and Dad. Love, your Wife and family.
