LEWES - Walter Curtis Bryan, 71, Lewes native. Curtis "Kertie" departed this life on August 31, 2015 to be with our Lord. He was preceded by best friend and partner of over ten years, Barbara Failing; his mother, Ruth Alice Edgens; his son, Walter Curtis Bryan, Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Gerald Breeding. Curtis was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, stationed in Guam, a status he wore proudly. He was a member of Milford Elks Lodge and Milford Moose Lodge. He worked in masonry and was noted for his exceptional brick work abilities. He enjoyed being creative with wood working, crafting ships, lighthouses and clocks. When he was able, he enjoyed gardening. Curtis will be remembered fondly by his friends and family for his friendly, warm nature and his infectious smile. He maintained a positive attitude during his health challenges, and he will be sorely missed. He is survived by three daughters, Laura Schafer, Carol Lee and Nancy Lee; a step-daughter, Sandy Lankford; father, Clarence A. Edgens, Jr. of Lewes, whom he lovingly referred to as "Daddy"; his brother, Clarence A. Edgens, III (and Joyce) who stood closely by his side; his sisters, Conarae Breeding, Sara Nelson, Nancy Wyatt, Linda Mitchell (and Pat), Patricia Goble (and Bob), Darlene Edgens; as well as many nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held on September 12, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery, Clendaniel Pond Road, Lincoln. Services were officiated by Fern Kester. Curtis was laid to rest next to his best friend and partner, Barbara Failing. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Bryan's memory can be made to American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801. Arrangements in the care of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.
