WARWICK, Md. - Walter Atwell, of Warwick, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 69.
Mr. Atwell was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Raysal, W.Va., to the late Allen and Clydie Atwell.
He was a well respected automobile mechanic who worked locally for several Ford dealerships.
Mr. Atwell enjoyed spending time with his family and had several hobbies during his lifetime.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and CB radios.
Mr. Atwell formed and coached the second major league girl's softball team, The Crusaders, in Cecilton, in the 1980s.
He especially loved racing and built several classes of cars over the past 20 years. The last several years he was involved in micro midget racing.
He was a member of the Blackbird Micro Midget Racing Club at Airport Speedway in New Castle, Del.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy; and sisters, Helen and Sharon.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Aileen Atwell; two daughters, Rhonda Teat and her husband Wade and Michele French and her husband John; two grandchildren, Kyle and Megan Teat; five brothers, Charles, Cecil, Melvin, Albert and Eddie; four sisters, Margie, Mary, Betty and Doris; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank all the medical personnel involved in the caring of Mr. Atwell.
A celebration of life memorial service in honor of Mr. Atwell will be held at a later date.
