BRIDGEVILLE - Virgle E. "Ed" Banks Jr., of Bridgeville, died suddenly Oct. 13, 2007, at his home. He was 57.
Ed was born on Dec. 17, 1949, in Lewes, the son of the late Virgle E. Sr. and Mildred Stevenson Banks.
He graduated from Millsboro High School, and he attended for three years at the University of Delaware in its agriculture program.
Ed worked for Burris Foods in Harrington for 19 years, retiring in 1995 due to disability.
He had just started volunteering at the Milford Food Bank. He really enjoyed being there because he felt he was helping others.
Ed had always received pleasure from helping people.
He loved his nieces and nephews and grandneices and -nephews.
Ed enjoyed reading, collecting teddy bears, talking on the phone with his friends, watching TV, and working in his flowers and garden.
Ed attended several churches in the local area.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Janet Smith Banks; a niece and her husband, Dawn and Dan Boyce of Wilton, Conn.; a nephew and his wife, Brian and Carol Smith of Camden; several grandnieces and -nephews, Allison Clark, Evan Clark, Shawn Smith, Elizabeth Smith, and Cullin Smith; and a good friend, Curtis Todd.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood, where family and friends may call one hour prior.
Interment will be at Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville.
Instead of flowers, donations may be sent to his wife or Fleischauer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 502, Greenwood, to help defray the cost of funeral expenses.
