Dover- Violet E. Bernard, of Dover, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016, in her home. Violet was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Edwardsville, Del., to the late, Louder & Della (Dill) Edwards. Throughout her working career, Violet worked for Playtex, in Dover; the Harrington Shirt Factory, I.L.C., and General Foods. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to Bingo, dancing, playing the penny slots at the Harrington Casino, and going to the Delaware State Fair, where she loved watching them trying to guess her age. She was also very fond of taking her annual trips to Aruba, which brought her joy for over 20 years. Violet was the last living charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary in the Felton Fire Company. In addition to her parents, siblings, and two grandsons, Violet was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Bernard, who died in 1975. Violet is survived by her three daughters, Mary K. Overstreet, with whom she resided, Violet L ."Bobbie " Dean, of Farmington, and Nancy L. Emory & her husband, Joseph, of Harrington; her brother, Paul Edwards, Sr, of Dover, who is the last remaining sibling out of 13 children; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren & nine great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Violet's daughter Mary, for her loving care and attention to her mothers needs; as well as the nurses and home health aides from Christiana Care, and Seasons Hospice. Viewing is being held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016, in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE.; where funeral services will take place on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Hopkins Cemetery, Felton, DE.
