Thomas H. Willis, 81 FRANKFORD - Thomas H. Willis, 81, of Frankford, and currently of Chestertown, Md., died Dec. 4, 2009, in Smith Creek Assisted Living, Warwick, Md. Mr. Willis was born on Nov. 17, 1928, in Farmingdale, N.Y., son of the late Valentine and Marjorie Merritt Willis. He grew up in Garden City, N.Y., and graduated from Garden City High School in 1947. For 2 years he attended Cornell University and in 1950 enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving until 1954, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1957 he began his career with IBM Corp., working in administration and sales support, retiring in 1990 after 33 years of service. He lived in Gwynedd Valley, Pa., until retiring to Frankford in 1993. He was a member of Eastern Shore Bible Baptist Church, Galena, Md., and Calvary Baptist Church, Georgetown. Mr. Willis enjoyed gardening, camping, stamp collecting and spending time with his family. Mr. Willis is survived by his wife of 52 years Ruth Swartley Willis; two sons, Thomas H. Willis Jr. and his wife Stacy of Rochester, N.H., and Robert A. Willis and his wife Linda of Kennedyville, Md.; a sister, Virginia Hallowell of Doylestown, Pa.; a brother, Donald T. Willis of Potomac Falls, Va.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded by his step-mother, Nina Thurber Willis; and a sister, Esther Geiger. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Eastern Shore Bible Baptist Church, 13984 Gregg Neck Rd., Galena, where friends may call after 10:15 a.m. Burial in adjoining cemetery.
