CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Thomas A. Schauber, 85, of Chestertown, died Nov. 8, 2008, at home. Mr. Schauber was born Jan. 29, 1923, son of the late Adam and Ella Hurd Schauber. He has spent his life in Kent and Queen Anne's counties. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater with the rank of staff sergeant. Mr. Schauber was employed by Delmarva Power for 20 years, sold modular homes for 12 years and retired from Queen Anne's County as a maintenance supervisor. He was a life member of both the Millington Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 652 and the American Legion Frank M. Jarman Post 36. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Lawrence and Bernard Schauber; and a sister, Bernice Perriraz. Mr. Schauber is survived by his wife of 65 years, S. Margaret Lockwood Schauber; three children, Ellen Ruebeck of Millington, and Dennis and Don Schauber, both of Chestertown; 11 siblings, Rose Mary Dana and Adam Schauber Jr., both of Florida, Genivieve Gorsuch of Still Pond, Mary Keenan of Wilmington, Del., Paul and Walter Schauber, both of Baltimore, George Schauber of Elkton, William Schauber of Chestertown, Albert Schauber of Sudlersville, and Donald and James Schauber, both of Montana; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. in Scared Heart Catholic Church, Chestertown, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Crumpton Cemetery. Arrangements by Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
