DOVER - Theodore Edward Johnson Jr. of Dover passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2007, in the University of Maryland Medical Center with his devoted wife Sharon at his bedside. He was 64.

He was born Nov. 17, 1942, in Newark, N.J., son of the late Theodore Edward Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth (Bunn) Johnson.

Affectionately known as Teddy or T.J., he was educated in the public school system of Newark.

After graduating from Prairie View A&M University, he attended Delaware State College, now University.

Mr. Johnson retired from Delaware State University after 35 years of employment.

While at DSU, he served as adviser to many student organizations including the Groove Phi Groove fraternity.

No one was a stranger to Teddy and he was at all times a genuine person and a strong Christian.

Mr. Johnson was member of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Dover.

As a member of Mount Zion, he was a former class leader, a faithful member of the church school, the Caroline V. Stanley Lay Organization, the Unity and the Voices of Thunder Male Chorus.

Mr. Johnson was a soloist in the Voices of Thunder leading such songs as "Yes God is Real, Twelve Gates to the City, Get Right Church, Aint Got Time to Die, Precious Lord, I"m Going Home on the Morning Train and Sign Me Up For the Christian Jubliee."

He also served as a member of the Delaware Annual Conference Department of Evangelism until 2001.

In Mr. Johnson"s spare time, he loved reading, watching sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.

He also enjoyed playing chess, monopoly, computer solitaire and spending time with his granddaughter, Anniya.

His motto was "If I can help somebody, than my living will not be in vain."

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert K. Trent and Reginald Trent; three sisters, Gloria J. Johnson, Patricia A. Johnson and Kathleen D. Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Sharron Hankins-Johnson of Dover; two daughters, Chezella T. and Jacquetta E. Hankins, both of Dover; one granddaughter, Anniya D. Hankins of Dover; one sister, Audrey Octavia Daniels and her husband, Jeff of Dover; one brother, Curtis Eugene Trent and his wife, Carrie of Newark, N.J.; sisters-in-law, Alberta Trent and Judy Hankins of Burgaw, N.C.; brother-in-law, Larry D. Hankins Sr. and his wife, Sheila from Burgaw, N.C.; four nieces, Cheryl J. Washington, Sharon Trent, Tomika D. Johnson and Mahassa Johnson; three nephews, Aku Johnson, Reginald Trent Jr. and Curtis Eugene Trent Jr.; godchildren, Shawn Berry, Christy Tolliver and Tyronda Bailey; and a host of other relatives and friends including, Henrietta, Lava and Mint, the nursing staff of the Long Green Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore, and the Mishoe, Sudler, Hankins and Smith families and his Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church family.

Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. Friday in Mt. Zion AME Church in Dover. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, where friends may view two hours prior.

Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
