CLAYTON - Stephen J. Popovich passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at Kent General Hospital in Dover. Mr. Popovich was born Aug. 23, 1958 in Wilmington, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Popovich. He worked for many years as a Construction Superintendent, most recently for Ventresca Brothers, Inc., of New Castle. Steve enjoyed surf fishing on the beach and spending time with family, friends, and his three dogs at home. He was also known to be a "Master of frozen drinks" and serving as the household pool boy. Steve was a loving husband and best friend to his wife, Joanne, as well as a proud father and role model to his children, Justin, Spencer, and Morgan. A compassionate father, his advice to his children will always guide them throughout their lives. He will be sadly missed and loved by his family forever. He is survived by his wife and soul mate of over 30 years, Joanne; three children, Justin, Spencer, and Morgan; his brother, Joseph, Jr.; his sister, Daria Hofmann; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and his three dogs, Jake, Chase, and Oakley. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at 4 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna, where memorial services will begin at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
