MILFORD - SSGT. John Raymond Skiba, Jr., US Air Force Retired passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Troy, N.Y. the son of Joan Ann Skiba and the late John R. Skiba, Sr.
After high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he became a jet mechanic, serving during Operation Desert Storm. John continued active duty for a total of 12 years at the Dover Air Force Base. John then entered the Air Force Reserves as an Air Reserve Technician, working in that capacity until he retired in 2010. John then continued to work at the Dover Air Force Base in civil service for the base contractor until becoming ill.
In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars and was a devout fan of the Chicago Bears football team.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Skiba; his three sons, Jeremiah Skiba (Blair), Jordan Skiba and Jaiden Skiba; his mother, Joan Ann (Luce) Skiba; his three sisters, Judy Molnar (Joe), Donna Surprenant, and Joannie Skiba and her companion Adam; one brother, Bob Skiba (Karyn); his beloved dogs, Tritan, King and Cherokee; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford where funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Burial with Air Force Honors will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Georgetown.
