Shirley Marie Spinella, 68
DOVER - Shirley Marie Spinella of Dover died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at home after a long, courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 68.
Shirley was born Oct. 27, 1938, in Greenville, Miss. to the late Jesse Lee Crenshaw and Mary Lee Bow Crenshaw. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Paul Crenshaw.
She graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, Miss., in 1956 and proudly graduated magna cum laude from Wesley College in Dover.
Shirley loved her family and friends.
Being a grandmother was one of her greatest enjoyments.
Shirley enjoyed her garden, feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in her backyard.
She loved animals of all kinds, especially her beloved cats, Bootsy and Rusty, and believed in and supported no-kill rescues of cats and dogs.
One of Shirley"s favorite pastimes was to play the slot machines.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Matthew "Skip" Spinella of Dover; her daughter, Jere Lynne Chaffee and grandson, Christopher Chaffee, both of Dover; her daughter, Laura Hirsh and her husband, Henry and grandson, Christian Marvel, all of Silver Springs, Md.; her son, Michael Spinella and his wife, Leslie and two granddaughters, Angela Spinella and Rachel Spinella, and a great-grandson, Sebastiano Spinella, all of Delaware City; her daughter, Tracy Hynes and her husband, Pat and grandchildren, Lindsay Hynes and Andrew Hynes, all of Lewes; her son, Scott Spinella and his wife, Cathy of Dover; her son, John Zatlokovicz Jr. and his wife, Debra and grandsons, John Zatlokovicz III, James Paul Zatlokovicz, all of Dover; her brother, Thomas J. Crenshaw and his wife, Faith of Broken Arrow, Okla.; her sister, Teresa Crenshaw and her husband, Jack Foley of Dover; and her sister-in-law, Jessica Smith and her husband, Charles of Laurel; and several loving nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Dover.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude Children"s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to the Animal Humane Sanctuary, 409 Black Diamond Road, Smryna, DE 19977.
