CANTERBURY - Samuel E. Walters, Jr. "Pops" of Canterbury passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Bayhealth @ Kent General Hospital in Dover. Samuel was born in Viola on December 21, 1934, the son of the late Samuel E. Walters, Sr. and Elmira (Shockley) Walters. The family moved to the family farm when he was two years old in Canterbury and lived there for 78 years. He drove a truck and farmed his entire life. He loved his cats especially Friskies. He didn't meet a cat that he did not love. In his early life, he loved to rabbit hunt with his dogs. He loved to attend auctions and when his son became an auctioneer he especially enjoyed sitting in his golf cart talking to the other farmers attending. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Hannah (Marvel) Walters; two children, Betty Ann Walters of Felton and Sam Walters (Kellie) of Viola; three sisters, Sadie Swain of Canterbury, Betty Jo Wood of Viola, Evelyn (Nat) Moore of Canterbury; brother, Robert Walters of Canterbury; three step grandsons, Cole, Eugene (EJ) and Dustin Elliott of Viola; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2014 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main St., Felton, where friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2014. Interment will be at the Walters Cemetery in Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Felton Fire Company, Ladies Auxiliary and Ambulance Fund, 9 E. Main St., Felton, DE 19943. The family would like to thank the nurses in the I.C.U. Unit at Kent General Hospital for taking such good care of their father and husband.
