Sally Wilchinski
Sally Wilchinski passed away on January 3, 2022, at home with family by her side.
She was born on August 11, 1939, in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Harold and Betty Imes. She was also predeceased by her three siblings, Dorothy Love, Rose Anne Baldwin and James Imes.
Sally leaves behind her much-loved Family, husband Ed and their four sons: Scott Berry, Brock Berry, Edward (Diane) Wilchinski, Matt (Melissa) Wilchinski; nine grandchildren, Brian Berry, Bridgett (John) French, Joseph Berry, Matthew, Edward, Nora, Madison, Abygael and McKenzie Wilchinski; and one great grandson, JW French.
Sally worked at Kent General Hospital for many years and was responsible for establishing the Volunteer Department. Building it from the ground up was a challenging and rewarding Job. When she left in 1991 there were over four hundred volunteers serving all departments in the hospital. Many of her teen volunteers went on to careers in the medical profession. She also founded and served as the first Chairperson of the Delaware Society of Directors of Volunteer Services.
During her working years she was very involved in raising her children and in their many activities. On vacations she enjoyed traveling to many Foreign Countries and Islands with her husband and their friends.
After retiring Sally enjoyed golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and mahjong, going to the movies and being with family. But most of all Sally enjoyed a good joke and life in general. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
Please gather with family and friends for a memorial service that will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 East Lebanon Road, Dover, Del. Visitation will precede the service at 10 a.m. and burial will follow at Sharon Hills Cemetery, Dover, Delaware. While together, Sally has asked that you share a joke or story with the family. No one will enjoy it more than her.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The Rotary Foundation, 1560 Sherman Avenue, Evanston, IL 60201 or the Roy Klein Education Foundation, DCF, P.O. Box 1636, Wilmington, DE 19899.
