Ruth B. Mitchell

LEWES - Ruth B. Mitchell passed away on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at her home. She was born on Sept. 19, 1927 in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Lowell and Martha Bailey.
Ruth and her family moved to Massapequa, N.Y. in 1940. She graduated from Amityville High School, Class of 1944. In Feb. of 1945, Ruth came to Lewes to enter Beebe School of Nursing under the Nurse Army Corps Program. She graduated in 1948 as an RN. After working at Beebe Hospital, she worked for Dr. Ervin Stambaugh for 11 years. Ruth returned to Beebe Hospital in 1967, where she continued to work until she was 75 years old. She worked as a nurse manager for 23 of those years and returned after retirement to work part time in the Same Day Surgery Unit. While in nursing school, Ruth met the love of her life, Kenneth, and married him shortly after graduation. They were married for 63 years until his passing. Ruth loved nursing and caring for others. She enjoyed her weekly lunches with her dear friends and shopping, but above all, she loved taking care of her beloved grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Lowell Bailey. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Larrimore and her husband Joseph of Milton, Gail Merz of Lewes, and Laurie Lannin and her husband John of The Colony, Texas; her grandchildren, Joshua Esham (Patricia) of Riverside, Calif., Kathleen Fields of Frisco, Texas, John Merz of Sicklerville, N.J., and Brian Quinn of McKinney, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Matthew, Riley, Thomas, Melana, Mitchell, and Kimora; and her sister, Marilyn Anderson of Florida.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 2nd Street, Lewes. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.
