CLAYTON - Robert Mills Mitchell "Bobby passed away peacefully in his home January 24, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Bobby was born June 1, 1942 in Dover, Del. to the late James Leonard Mitchell Sr. and Edith E. Mitchell of Smyrna, Del.
He was employed as a truck driver (which he loved) travelling all over the United States until retirement. He was also a lifetime member of Citizens Hose Company #1 of Smyrna and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his four children, Robin Forrest (Chucky), Debbie Mitchell, Elizabeth Ford, and AJ Mitchell (Stephanie); seven wonderful grandchildren, Chuck Forrest (Sam), Cody Forrest, Sam Gonce, Deanna Gonce, Gia Ford-Turpin (Anthony), AJ Mitchell, Jake Mitchell; and a great-granddaughter, Willa (Gia and Anthony) on the way; a brother, Sammy Mitchell (Diane); and lots of nephews and nieces, all of whom were very special to him. He is also survived by his dear friend and companion of 20+ years, Emma Snyder and their pups Bella and Buddy, who he adored.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 21 years, Ann E. Mitchell; a sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Joseph Kawulok; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and William S. Lewis Sr.; and a brother and sister-in-law, James L. Mitchell Jr. and Connie Mitchell.
Services will be held at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, on Saturday January 30, 2021. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. and will be open to the public. The service led by his Nephew Mark Lewis will be from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. and will be limited to immediate/extended family only, due to the current distancing restrictions. Graveside services will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, Del. and will be open to the public. At this time, there will be no reception following the graveside services due to current social distancing restrictions.
Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Mitchell's name to Citizens Hose Co. #1, PO Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977.
