Robert E. Bradford

HARTLY - Robert E. Bradford, of Hartly, passed away at home on Sunday, March 13, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was 68. Mr. Bradford was born Oct. 18, 1942, in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Russell Bradford and Mary Goddard Bradford. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and served on the USS Conway 507. He served on active duty for 4 years and inactive duty for 2 years. Mr. Bradford worked for the Electric Hose and Rubber Company in Wilmington, for 10 years and then went on to work for Chrysler for 23 years before retiring in 1999. While at Chrysler, he worked on the paint line, was a shop steward, and eventually went on to become a committee man and an MOA facilitator for the UAW Local 1183. His hobbies included hunting, keeping busy, and always helping others. He loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Chroniger. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary E. Bradford; a son, Robert E. Bradford, Jr.; his wife, Rhonda of Townsend and their two sons, Robert E. Bradford III and Michael Montisano; a daughter, Cheryl A. Poet, her husband Gordon T. Poet Jr. of Clayton, and their two children, Stephanie L. Poet and Eric E. Poet; a brother, Russell Bradford of Pottsville, Pa.; two sisters, Judith (Cookie) Hassler of Georgetown, and Elaine (Lanny) Kahn of Laureldale, Pa.; Godsons, Tommy Chroniger, Brad Grohman, Jimmy Grohman, and Robert Hassler; and a Godchild, Audrey Chroniger. Services will be 7 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2011, in the chapel of Faries Funeral Home, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
