HARRINGTON - Richard Hurd, 73, of Harrington, passed away on November 8, 2016. Mr. Hurd was born in Smyrna. He owned his own auto shop and general store in Felton, in his younger years. He worked at and managed numerous auto body shops in his professional career including Porters, IGBurton among others. He spent a number of years owning harness race horses. He recently worked at Edgewell doing maintenance. He was an avid sports fan of all Philadelphia teams. He played basketball and baseball at Lake Forest High in Felton. He played semi pro baseball for a number of years. He loved to run fox and rabbits with his beagle dogs. He loved to watch his family and grand kids play their sports activities. Mr. Hurd is survived by his wife, Ann Hurd; four children, Robin Walls (Rick) of Harrington, Kimberly Wingrove of Harrington, Craig Hurd (Samantha) of Felton and Shelly Cardwell (Kerry) of Newark; his siblings, Shirley Hammond of Felton, Jeff Thorpe of Woodside; 11 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julie Thorpe; special family members, Bud Hurd and Elinor Daniels; and first wife, Marlene Hurd. A funeral service will be at 12 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934, where there will be a public viewing from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will follow in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
