Faust, 68 Fort Lauderdale - Richard Howard Faust died unexpectedly in his sleep on Thursday, Sept. 24th. He is survived by: his wife of 45 years, Elaine; his son, Cooper; his daughter-in-law, Rachel; his step-brother, Jim; his step-sister, Becky; and his cat, Michael Jackson. Richard and family moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1985, drawn by the glamorized version of South Florida depicted in the Miami Vice TV show. He and Elaine went on to own several apartment buildings and a shopping plaza. Earlier in life, Richard was an Eagle Scout, served as an Avionics Technician in the Navy, earned a Master of History degree, and was a professional photographer. He was a voracious reader and an avid follower of politics (and perhaps the only person ever to decorate a bathroom with political bumper stickers). Richard savored life's simple pleasures, especially feeding the animals that inhabited the palm tree jungle in his back yard and admiring the water view from his porch. Richard did not see gender, race, or class - he truly liked everybody. He will be remembered as smart, opinionated, creative, diligent, charming, and funny (his loved ones chuckled upon hearing he'd named his favorite New York Times columnist, Maureen Dowd, as back-up executor of his will). A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 4, at Serenity Funeral Home, 3889 Powerline Rd., Oakland Park, Fla. 33309.
