SMYRNA - Richard H. Nelson of Smyrna died Thursday, March 8, 2007, in his home. He was 67.
Mr. Nelson was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Smyrna, son of Gladys Minner Nelson and the late Howard B. Nelson and
He worked as a Realtor for Harrington Realty in Dover, and taught real estate classes at Delaware Technical & Community College and the Kent County School of Realtors, both in Dover.
Mr. Nelson was a member of Ewell"s St. Paul United Methodist Church, Clayton, where he served as organist and choir director for 35 years.
He also served as organist and choir director for St. Peter"s Episcopal Church in Smyrna for 10 years.
Mr. Nelson was a past president of the Smyrna school board and served 18 years in the Delaware National Guard.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Hetzell Nelson Aug. 19, 1992.
He is survived by his mother, Gladys Minner Nelson; two sons, Lt. Col. Michael R. Nelson of Rosedale, Md.. and Dr. Robert H. Nelson of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Deborah J. Nelson of Smyrna; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Ewell"s St. Paul United Methodist Church, West Street and Clayton Avenue, Clayton.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Ewell"s St. Paul United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 266, Clayton, DE 19938.
