MILFORD - Richard Franklin Shockley, of Milford, born July 6, 1933, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at his home with many of his family by his side. He was the son of the late Granville Wilson Shockley and Hilda F. Shockley of Cedar Beach Road, Milford. He worked and helped develop the family farm business known as G. W. Shockley & Sons, Inc. and Shockley Bros. located on Cedar Beach Road, Milford. He worked his entire life and farming was the love of his life. Even during his illness, he continued to be very active in the farming operation. He was a lifetime member of Memorial Fire Company, Station 89 located in Slaughter Beach, Milford; belonged to the Milford Elks Lodge #2401, the Harrington Moose Lodge # 534, the Delaware Farm Bureau and Southern States of Milford. He also served in the Delaware Army National Guard. He loved his families and they loved him. He loved to walk and go to the beach and pick up Delaware Beach Glass. He loved to travel and spend time in Florida with family and friends, but most of all he loved hunting with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends and those who came in contact with him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lionel F. and John H. Shockley; and a nephew, Mark L. Shockley. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Fay P. Shockley; one brother, Wilson Shockley of Milford; three sisters, Marie Scarborough, Irma Jones and Lola Knotts, all of Milford; and a sister-in-law that helped to take care of him for the past years, Brenda L. Prettyman of Greenwood. Richard loved and was loved by many special nieces and nephews, to some of which he was considered a second father. He was a special Paw Paw Richard to Chloe and Joshua. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Richard Franklin Shockley Playground Park in care of Memorial Fire Company, 22645 Harbeson Road, Harbeson, DE 19951.
