The Rev. Leo Keesic, 69
BEAR - The Rev. Leo Keesic of Bear went to be with the Lord Friday, July 20, 2007, at Regal Heights Healthcare in Hockessin. He was 69.
Leo was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada, to the late Isaac and Annie Keesic.
He did not receive a formal education and started working for the Forestry Service at age 14. He graduated from Mokahum Indian Bible School in Cass Lake, Minn.
Afterwards, Leo married Ruth Marie Zimmerman, and they eventually moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario, where they raised their children.
In 1981, he moved his family to Cass Lake, Minn., where he helped work on translation of the Bible into his native Ojibway language.
Leo accepted the invitation to become pastor of Mokahum Indian Bible Chapel where he led the congregation for many years.
Upon retirement, he relocated with his family to Delaware.
During his later years, Leo was very proud to have his memoir, "My Search for Truth," published.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Marie Keesic, on March 30, 2000; and eight siblings.
He is survived by his children, Judith Marie Martin and her husband Erik of Bear, Leo Daniel Keesic and his wife Jennifer of Milford, Malinda Joy Gray and her husband, Wesley of Laurel, Leo Andrew Isaac Keesic of Wilmington, Timothy Paul Keesic and his wife Lois of Farmington, N.M., and Malissa Jasmin Keesic of Newark; his grandchildren, Leif Martin, Aaron Martin, Morgan Keesic, Juliet Keesic, Christian Gray and Isaac Gray; his brothers, Tommy Keesic, Robert Keesic and his wife Patty, and Stanley Keesic; a sister, Peggy Leggett and her husband Russell; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A viewing will be today, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Tresslers Mennonite Church, Owens Station, Del. 16 East, Greenwood, where his funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday. Burial service will be Monday in the church cemetery.
