R. Wayne Pryor, 75

DOVER - R. Wayne Pryor of Dover died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, in his home. He was 75.

Mr. Pryor was born Aug. 24, 1931, son of the late Alvin G. and Frances Anderson Pryor.

He was in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1951 to 1955. He served during the Korean War, first as a reserve and then on active duty on the U.S. Cutter Chincoteague.

Mr. Pryor worked for the state of Delaware, and then Willis Chevrolet until starting his own business, C&P Motors, with the late Fred Carey from 1960 to 1976. From 1977 until 1996, he owned and operated Pryor Auto Sales, Inc. in Smyrna.

He was a avid golfer and attended annual golf trips for more than 32 years. He had a lifelong passion for attending horse races. In 1998, he purchased his first race horse, Cams Fortune, with Chuck Crissman. He owned hundreds of horses over the past eight years, among them CC"s Chuckie T, winner of the Peter Haughton Memorial Race. At the time of his death, he was the owner of 43 race horses.

Mr. Pryor was a member of Masonic Lodge Union 7, Harrington Moose Lodge, American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14, Delaware Standard Bred Owner"s Association, United States Trotting Association and The Clover Leaf.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Martin C. "Mike" Pryor; and his sister, Elaine P. Melvin.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Thelma Attix Pryor; a son, Richard "Ricky" Wayne Pryor II of Dover; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Larry Williams of Newark; and two sisters, Nancy L. Waller of Camden and Carol Ann Towles of Smyrna.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover.

Masonic Services will be at 5:45 p.m. in the funeral home.

Remembrance services will be noon Thursday in the funeral home, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934; or the AmericanHeart Association-Kent County, DE Memorial Fulfillment Center, 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
