GEORGETOWN - Preston L. King, lifelong resident of Georgetown, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013. Preston was a son of the late Lloyd and Mary (Joines) King. He attended the King Country School for his first 6 grades, with one teacher for all six grades. He then went to Georgetown High School graduating in 1942. On Jan. 30, 1953 he married Dorothy Davis. In his early years, he worked for J. Rodney King doing dynamite work on the footing for the first Bay Bridge and helped seed the Friendship Airport, now called Baltimore Washington International Airport. He also did work at the Dover Air Base. He later raised chickens and did farming. He was a life member of Hebron M.P. Church and also attended McColley's Church. He was a member of the NRA, AARP and Davis Deer Lodge. Preston devoted his life to helping the older family members and neighbors in his neighborhood. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine King and Mildred Murray; seven brothers-in-law, John White, Denver Shoemaker, George Jester, Sr., John Davis, Sr., Wayne Wise, Arthur Davis and Paul Davis. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy (Davis) King; four sisters, Aliene Wise, Agnes Quesada, Helen Davis and Nellie Adams; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Tom Davis and Carol, Robert Davis and Grace, James Davis and Ruth; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, with visitation after noon. Burial will be in Hebron M.P. Church Cemetery, Seashore Hwy, Georgetown. Flowers are accepted or contributions can be made to Hebron M.P. Church, c/o Mrs. Nellie Adams, 21902 Vaughn Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.
