FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Philip E. Payne of Federalsburg died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006, in his home. He was 74.

Mr. Payne was born Nov. 18, 1931, in Hurlock, son of the late John Emory and Helen (Phillips) Payne.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955.

Mr. Payne was a 1948 graduate of Hurlock High School.

He worked as a mechanic millwright at E. I. DuPont Co. in Seaford, before retiring after 42 years of service.

Mr. Payne enjoyed bowling in the DuPont League for many years and enjoyed playing pinochle with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darryl E. Payne, on May 8, 2005; and a sister, Louise Beal.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie Donovan Payne, whom he married on Dec. 11, 1953; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David A. Sr. and Carol Ann Payne, and Dennis E. Payne, all of Federalsburg; a daughter and a son-in-law, Dawn P. and Robert Jester of Choptank; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Payne of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren, Derrick E. Payne, Darrin N. Payne, Jamie Lee Payne, Angela N. Folk, Lori E. Jester, Michael A. Jester, David A. Payne Jr., Dale R. Payne, Daniel R. Jester and Sara A. Payne; a great-grandson, Christian D. Payne; a brother, Howard Payne of Milford; five sisters, Virginia Thomas of Baltimore, Dorothy Donovan of Federalsburg, Rachel Lord and Martha Harris, both of Seaford, and Edith Schoffstall of Melbourne, Fla., and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Framptom Funeral Home, P.A., where friend may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Dale Evans will officiate.

Burial will be in Bloomery Cemetery, Smithville.
