TOWNSEND - Paul J. Cartwright of Townsend passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, in Christiana Hospital, Newark, after a short illness. He was 72.
He was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Marian Cartwright and Julia Carroll Cartwright.
After graduating from Wilmington High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served for three years before being honorably discharged with the rank of corporal.
Mr. Cartwright was employed for many years as an aircraft mechanic and aviation inspector with Atlantic Aviation and DeCrane/Pats Aviation.
He was a member of several professional organizations within the aviation field including the EAA and PAMA.
Mr. Cartwright was a member of St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Smyrna, and was a member of the Brother Vincent Council 7517 of the Knights of Columbus for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Anita L. Cartwright; two sons, Michael Cartwright and his wife Lori of Guilford, Conn.; and Mark Cartwright and his wife Betty J. of Elkton, Md.; a daughter, Tina Cartwright of Wilmington; two grandsons, Ryan Edward and Dylan Paul Cartwright, both of Elkton; three brothers, William Cartwright of Newark, James Cartwright of New Castle, and Joseph Cartwright of Wilmington; five sisters, Elizabeth Eysaldt of Newark, Mildred Hayden of Thorndale, Pa., Julia Knotts of Wilmington, Patricia Raker of Elkton, and Maureen Bunge of Wilmington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Ransom Lane and South Street, Smyrna.
Friends may call from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday in Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Interment with military honors will be 1 p.m. Thursday inthe Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Newark.
