DENTON, Md. - Oakley R. Councill of Denton died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in Memorial Hospital at Easton, Md. He was 82.
Mr. Councill was born in Smyrna, the son of the late Oakley Rollins Councill and Ruth Irene Shockley Councill.
He had lived in Ridgely, Md. moving there in 1939 and then moved to Denton in 1950.
In 1963 he opened the L & O Service station in Denton on Fifth Avenue and retired in 1989.
A U.S. Army veteran of World Ward II, serving in the Pacific Theater, Mr. Council was a member of Caroline American Legion Post 29 in Denton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Bauer Councill, died Dec. 24, 1997; one brother, John P. Shockley; and one sister, Ruth Ann Passwaters.
Mr. Councill is survived by one daughter, Dale A. Lord and her husband, Donald, of Ridgely; one sister, Jean Hayes of Dover; one stepson, William L. Schuyler and his wife, Nancy of Denton; one niece, Judy Keene and her husband, Frank, of Federalsburg, Md.; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Denton Cemetery, Denton.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Caroline Nursing Home, Inc., 520 Kerr Avenue, Denton, MD 21629.
