LAUREL - Nelson P. "Peanut" VanVorst, 80, of Laurel, died on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010. Nelson was born on Jan. 9, 1930, the son of the late Cornelius and Cora VanVorst in Milford. Nelson retired from the Dupont Company in Seaford in 1988 with 38 years of service. He was in the Army from 1951 to 1953 and was a lifetime member of the Milford VFW and was a member of the Hurlock American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and Nascar. He was an avid Ford fan and Bill Elliott and David Pearson were his favorite drivers. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, June VanVorst; brothers, Burt VanVorst and his wife Marion, Bill VanVorst, Robert VanVorst and his wife Gladys, Donald VanVorst and his wife Tishe, James VanVorst and his wife Myra and Leroy VanVorst and his wife, Pat; sister, Norma Warner and husband Alvin; and sisters in-law, Anna Mae VanVorst and Frances Wainwright. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cornelius VanVorst;, sister Doris Rust and husband Harvey; sister in-law, Harriet VanVorst and brother in law, Silas Wainwright. Funeral Services were on Sunday, Jan. 2 at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Eastern Shore Veterinary Hospital, 32384 Sussex Hwy, Laurel, DE 19956.
