Marvel, 96 GEORGETOWN - Myrtle Parker Marvel, 96, passed away on September 20, 2014 at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown. Myrtle was born on May 12, 1918 to Wingate and Gertrude Parker. Myrtle worked at various secretarial jobs including a three year stint at the local draft board. She was an examiner for individuals applying for their driver's license for four years when the Georgetown DMV was only a two-person operation. As a second job, she worked as a teletypist for the News Journal in the evenings with her husband, sending the results of local high school athletic events to be published by the Journal the following day. She was a secretary at Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown for 45 years. Working there with all the many ministers she served, and working with various charities and local aide organizations was the joy of her life. She greatly enjoyed the weekend music by the 'No Name Band' that played at Grace Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, "Joe B."; a brother, John; and sisters, Beatrice, Edna, Marian; and infant sister, Ann. She is survived by her son, "Butch" (Holly); and daughter, Sue Pepper-Whapham (Vince); grandsons, Eric and Joey Pepper, Michael Marvel; and granddaughters, Shannon and Kelsey Marvel. A Celebration of Life will be 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, 2015 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE 19947 where friends may call after 6 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either: Grace UM Church 7 S. King St. Georgetown, DE or: Harrison Senior Living 110 W. North St., Georgetown, DE. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Harrison Senior Living where Mrs. Marvel received exemplary care over an extended period.
