REDDEN - Mildred L. Bailey of Redden passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Maundy Thursday, April 5, 2007. She was 92 years young.

Mrs. Bailey was born June 20, 1914, in Pocomoke City, Md.

She was known for her devout, deep love of her family and was considered a meticulous homemaker. She also loved gardening and planting flowers and didn't mind getting her hands into the dirt doing both. She was a proud woman who believed staunchly in hard work and honesty, and always treated everyone she met kindly. She will be greatly missed by those blessed to have known her in this life.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Frank and Ociola Savage; a brother, Earl Savage; and a younger sister, Fannie Savage.

She is survived by her loving, faithful husband of 74 years, just two months shy of their diamond wedding anniversary, Oscar D. Bailey Sr. of Redden; two children, Oscar D. Bailey of Milford and Phyllis Bailey Smith of Georgetown; three sisters, Bertha Murphy Messick of Greenwood, Gladys Maloney of Milford and Madelyn Baskett of Seaford and their families; seven grandchildren and their spouses, David and Geralynn Smith of Georgetown, Christine S. and James Bowden of Georgetown, Michael E. Smith of Georgetown, Katrina S. and Jeff Stevens of Middletown, Susan B. and Timothy Esham of Millsboro, Carol B. and Paul Reed of Georgetown, and Michele B. and Shane Peiffer of Milford; 11 great-grandchildren, Trey Bowden, Skyler Bowden, Bailey Stevens, Kasey Stevens, Rebekah Joy Smith, Matthew Smith, Kayla Esham, Kelsey Esham, Adam Reed, MacKenzie Reed and Rebekah Peiffer.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
