Mahoney, Sr., 'M.G.', 88 DOVER - Melvin Gilbert Mahoney, Sr. "M.G."of Dover passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at home, five years from the date of his wife Anneleis death. He was 88. He was born November 5, 1926 in Bluefield, West Virginia to the late Clarence Mahoney and Pricilla Sams Mahoney. M.G met the love of his life while stationed in Germany and they were married in Germany shortly thereafter. While in Germany, Melvin, Jr. was born in Mainz, Germany. He traveled to Europe, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam during his military service that spanned from WWII (Navy) to the Korean Conflict to Vietnam (Air Force). He loved to collect stamps, watch baseball and putter around the yard. M.G. was loved by many and loved a good debate. Many remember him as always saying" Don't take any wooden nickels" each time he said good-bye. He was a Mason from Bluefield, West Virginia but attended the Dover Lodge. M.G. is survived by son, Melvin G. Mahoney, Jr. and his wife Conni of Dover; grandsons, Ryan and Conner Mahoney; brother, Charles Mahoney, who are deeply sadden by his passing but are thankful that he is at peace, M.G. will be missed immensely. The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and M.G.'s caregiver for all their guidance and support during M.G.'s journey home. Graveside services will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 28467 Dupont Blvd., Suite 6, Millsboro, DE 19966. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
