DOVER - Melanie Bethelle Miller, of Dover, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was 13.

She was born on May 7, 1994, in Dover.

Melanie was diagnosed with three primary cancerous tumors in June 2007.

She spent most of her 13th year at A.I. duPont Hospital battling cancer.

After numerous surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy, Melanie's one cancer returned.

Melanie did not mind numerous trips to the hospital, where many nurses, doctors and staff became her dear friends.

Her journey can be found on our blog at mlmiller.wordpress.com.

Her love for living was evidenced in many ways.

She loved to sing with her family and play the piano.

Melanie had a heart for people and always wanted to be sure each person knew how to get to heaven.

Volleyball was her favorite sport.

She was fiercely loyal to her siblings and friends and loved sleepovers.

Melanie enjoyed horses, swimming, crabbing, and fishing with her daddy.

She not only taught us how to die, but how to live.

She was a student at Central Christian School.

Melanie is survived by her parents, Martin and Lori Miller of Dover; three sisters, Lauren Elyse Miller, Alicia Joelle Miller, and Jana Kristen Miller; one brother, Cameron Douglas Miller, who all live at home; grandparents Allen Miller of Hartly, Linda Spry-Miller of Dover, and Ivan and Edna Yoder of Dover; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and many staff, nurses, and doctors at A.I. duPont.

Viewing will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. today in Central Mennonite Church, 220 W. Denneys Road, Dover.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Baptist Church, Del. 8 (Forrest Avenue), Dover, where friends may also call one hour earlier.

Burial will follow at Central Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Letters of condolences may be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
