Maude L. Smith

MILFORD - Maude L. Smith passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Maude was born June 1, 1929 in Milford, the daughter of the late Rev. Harvey O. Hufnal, Sr. and Dorothy E. Hufnal.
Maude was a homemaker. She was a charter and life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Carlisle Fire Company and a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she loved singing in the sanctuary choir and participating in several women's circles over the years.
She was proud to see her children, grandchildren and great grandson all raised. She loved her church and the many friendships she established over the years, as well as dining out with family and friends and cooking for family dinners when she was able. She was an avid reader frequently lending books from her vast collection to family and friends, as well as passing time doing her word search puzzles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, William E. Smith, Jr. in 1974 and her brother, Harvey O. Hufnal, Jr. in 1997.
She is survived by her children, Wayne E. Smith and his wife Helen of Georgetown, Sandra L. Walls, and Scott Smith, both of Milford; grandchildren are Brandy Smith-Taylor of Delmar, Md. and Ashleigh Smith of Salisbury, Md.; a great-grandson, Gabriel Rincon of Delmar, Md.; and an aunt, Mildred Pleasant of Hopewell, Va.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 SE Front Street, Milford where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery, Rt. 113, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Calvary United Methodist Church Elevator Fund, c/o Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 S.E. Front Street, Milford, DE 19963.
