HARRINGTON - Mary V. W. Taylor of Harrington died Friday, June 15, 2007, in Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She was 91.
She was born on Aug. 1, 1915, in Harrington to the late William H. and Effie Torbert Wright.
In addition to lovingly caring for her family, Mrs. Taylor was an avid seamstress and loved to crochet, quilt, and do crossword puzzles.
After helping her husband with farming for a number of years, she did bookkeeping for their automobile business, Taylor Motors.
When her children were all grown, she went to nursing school, and worked in the CCU Heart Unit at Milford Memorial Hospital for many years.
After retiring, she and her husband Mel, managed Drexel Court Motel in Land O" Lakes, Fla., which they purchased several years before retiring.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church near Vernon, Del., where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for several years.
She was also a member of the Prospect United Methodist Women, an associate member of the First United Methodist Church in Land O" Lakes, Fla., a member of the Harrington Senior Center, and Andrewville Historical Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by death by her beloved husband, Melville C. Taylor Sr.; a son, William C. Taylor Sr.; grandson, Wayne B. Taylor; a brother, Maurice Wright; and a sister, Pauline W. Pierce.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, M. Charles and Kathleen Taylor Jr. of Harrington; daughter and son-in-law, Edna Mae and Anthony Gallo of Harrington; daughter-in-law, Connie C. Taylor; sister-in-law, Lela Taylor; grandchildren, Terry G. Stokes, A. Gene Gallo, William C. Taylor Jr., Shane Taylor, Byron Taylor, Karen T. McGee, Matthew Taylor, and Miranda T. Marquez; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
The Rev. Danese Collins of Prospect United Methodist Church will officiate.
Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
