VIOLA - Mary Frances Gott, of Viola, passed away on Sept. 19, 2011, the date of her 86th birthday. Frannie, the name most people knew her by, was the daughter of the late Robert L. Newsom and Mary McQuade Newsom of New Castle. Frannie graduated from St. Peters in New Castle, and received a nursing degree from the University of Delaware. Frannie worked as a nurse at the Felton School and later worked for over 30 years and retired as a nurse from Kent General Hospital. After retirement, Frannie continued her lifelong passion of helping people through volunteering for the Red Cross and continuing volunteer services at Kent General Hospital. Frannie was a lifetime member of the Viola Ruritan Club and Felton Fire Company Ladies Auxilary. Frannie was an active member of the Holy Cross Church in Dover. Frannie enjoyed her many cherished moments with her loving family. She always loved playing cards with her close friends, watching her favorite sports teams, and loved taking her many trips around the world. Frannie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Gott Sr. who passed away in 1983; and her sisters, Clara Hoops and Kitty Kirby. She survived by her three sons, Joseph Gott Jr. and his wife Phyllis, Francis Gott and his wife Sharon, and Robert Gott and his wife Laura. She was a loving mom-mom of eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at the Holy Cross Church, Dover, at 11 a.m. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service.
