DOVER - Mary Elizabeth Hartley of Dover died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Mrs. Hartley was born in Edgewood, Texas, daughter of the late James and Alice Langston Adams.

She studied nursing at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was a registered nurse with the rank of first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

While overseas she met and married her husband.

After moving to Dover in 1965 she was a homemaker, she volunteered at Dover Air Force Base for many years with family services.

Mrs. Hartley received several awards including the 1993 Governor's Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award. She was a member of the Officers Wives Club and KSI (Kent Sussex Industry). She was also a member of the World War II Veterans Committee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Donald K. Hartley in 1995.

She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Sherman of Warner Robins, Ga.; her sister, Dorothy Boswell of Dallas, Texas; and a granddaughter, Tara Anne Sherman of San Diego.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Thursday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Del. 10), Dover.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. March 6 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of choice.
