SELBYVILLE - Mary E. Beckwith, 95, of Selbyville, formerly of Seaford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 at the Brandywine Assisted Living in Selbyville. Mrs. Beckwith was born in Williamsburg, Md., on Sept. 24, 1915, daughter of the late Herman and Annie Elizabeth (Collins) Pegelow. She was a retired seamstress working with different manufacturing companies in the area before her retirement. Mrs. Beckwith was a member of Dorcas Circle at Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. Mary will always be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin K. Beckwith; a brother, William F. Pegelow; and a sister, Anna Catherine Knotts. She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Orendorf and her husband Daniel of Ocean View, ; a brother, Ernest Pegelow and his wife Norma of Delmar, Md.; three granddaughters, Jennifer Baur and her husband Michael of Newark, M. Christine Phillips and her husband Jason of Roxana, and Kerry Halbedl and her husband James of Wilmington; and five great-grandchildren, Jack and Finn Baur and Kendall, Emily, and Logan Phillips. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970, where friends and family gathered after 12 noon. A grave side service was held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Oddfellows Cemetery in Seaford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Mary's name to Mariner's Bethel U.M. Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970.
