Margarete Patterson, 70
With a sad heart we say goodbye to a wonderful, caring, loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother. Margarete Patterson of Hartly, Delaware went to stay with God on Friday, April 16, 2021 while her family and friends live on with memories of her.
Margarete was born in Homburg-Saar, Germany. After finishing school she went to vocational school to be a seamstress. She met and married an Airforce Sgt. and moved to the United States in 1972, where they had two children in Georgia and then moved to Delaware. In Delaware she worked at Smyrna Clothing sewing London Fog coats until the closing of the factory. Margarete then started a career ILC Dover doing what would become her favorite type of sewing, making spacesuits for the Apollo Space Schuttle Astronauts. She really loved her job and her co-workers.
After a divorce, she remarried in 1982 giving birth to a third child in 1984. Margarete later developed ailments that would force her to retire from sewing but she still kept in touch with her friends and co-workers. Living in a rural area, she enjoyed watching the different animals that would come by for visits once in a while. She especially liked watching the Deer, Turkeys Eagles and Finches.
Margarete was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Eitze (born Becker); her father, Hubert Eitze.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip; son, Michael (Tammy) Evans; daughters, Frances Evans and Wendy Patterson (Joseph); grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Andrew, Tristan, Mark, Haley and Robert.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 South Main Street in Smyrna. Memorial services will begin at 12 p.m. The services will be streamed on the Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Facebook page. Burial will be private.
