RISING SUN, Md. - Madelon M. Newton of Rising Sun passed away after a long illness Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun. She was 88.
Born April 19, 1919, in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Frances (Fortner) Dill.
Madelon was a homemaker all of her life.
She enjoyed preparing and having dinners with her family at her summer home.
Madelon loved playing cards, knitting and watching baseball, especially the Phillies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L. Newton Sr., in 1983; two sisters, Betty Mitchell and Doris Calhoun; a brother, Edwin Dill; and two sons-in-law, Howard E. Moore Jr. and James Lackford.
Madelon is survived by three daughters, JoAnne Lackford, Betty Moore and Doris Purnell and her husband Jerry; one son, Harvey L. Newton Jr. and his wife JoAnne; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call one hour prior to service.
Mrs. Newton will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Smyrna Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, contributions can be made in Mrs. Newton"s memory to St. Jude Children"s Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
