WYOING, Del. - Lyle Milton Baltrusch went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at his home. He was born June 8, 1934, in Bowdon, N.D., the son of the late Wallace Marvin and Lilly West Baltrusch.
He married Christa Hoch, his loving wife of 62 years, in November 1959. Lyle served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1962, and the U.S. Army Reserve from 1975 to 1994, when he retired as master sergeant. He worked for the Dover Police Department from 1962 to 1982 and retired as lieutenant. He worked for the Delaware Statistical Analysis Center from 1984 to 1994. He earned degrees in criminal justice from Delaware Technical and Community College, a bachelor's degree in public administration from Upper Iowa University, and a master's degree in management and supervision from Central Michigan University. He earned a Ph.D. in public administration from the University of Beverly Hills.
He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Camden with his wife, where he was a past vestry member and senior warden. He was founder and president of the Dover Chess Club and past president of the Delaware Chess Association. He was a correspondence chess player for more than 20 years and a tournament director and organizer for more than 10 years. He played trombone and baritone horn with the Milford Community Band and the Dover Corps of the Salvation Army Band. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Christa Baltrusch; daughters, Teresa (William) Peschel of Hershey, Penn., and Eileen (Don) Wilson of Merritt Island, Fla.; son, Carl (Michelle) Baltrusch of Harrington, Del.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2022, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 210 Old North Road, Camden, DE.; where family and friends may gather beginning at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bayada Hospice, 4250 Lancaster Pike, Suite 308, Wilmington, DE 19805.
