Lois Savage Butterly, 73
REHOBOTH BEACH - Lois Savage Butterly, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. She was 73.
Lois was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Chincoteague, Va., daughter of the late Thurman F. and Nelda (Jester) Savage.
She graduated from Rehoboth High School in 1952. As a student in high school, she received many scholarships from the Rehoboth Art League for her artwork.
Lois graduated from Wesley Junior College in Dover in 1954, where she received an associate's degree in Christian education.
She was very active in drama in college and received the Actress of the Year award in 1953.
Lois was a dental assistant for Dr. Bruce Wright for 10 years and retired in 1981.
She was a member of Lewes Presbyterian Church and enjoyed working with the church, where she served as deacon, instituted a Tuesday morning Intercessory Prayer Group and started the Heart to Heart program.
She was instrumental in getting Young Life, a Christian youth program, started in the Cape Henlopen district.
Lois enjoyed painting as an amateur artist and also enjoyed gardening.
She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thomas J. Butterly; one son, Thomas T. Butterly and his wife Judith of Milford; one daughter, Beth A. Garvilla and her husband Mike of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Stacey Garvilla, Julie Garvilla, Joseph Garvilla, Elizabeth Butterly and Alexandra Butterly; one sister, Virginia "Ginnie" Caras of Georgetown; one brother, Thurman "Skip" Savage of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Dr. Harry Hughes will officiate.
Interment will be private at Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Rehoboth Beach.
