REHOBOTH BEACH - Lewis Samuels of Rehoboth Beach passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 92.
Mr. Samuels was born in Wilmington, son of the late Jake and Sara (Fredelin) Samuels.
He attended the University of Miami.
He entered the Rehoboth Beach Patrol in 1934 when he was 21.
Mr. Samuels was an accomplished diver and swimmer. He mostly guarded at Deauville Beach during the summers of 1934 to 1940. He was a life member of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol and attended the 75th, 80th and 85th RBP reunions.
He and his wife moved to the area more than 25 years ago. He had worked in the purchasing department for the DuPont Co. for many years and traveled to various areas of the country for the company. He was a member of American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard; and a member of Jefferson Masonic Lodge, Lewes. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Samuels of Rehoboth Beach; two nieces, Jean Viands and Doris Wissler; and a nephew, Jack Potts, all of Wilmington.
All services were private.
Arrangements were handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
