CLAYTON, DE - Lester E. Johnson, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, lifted by the clouds, and ushered into Heaven Thursday, July 27, 2023. He was born August 2, 1931 in Hartly, Delaware, son of William and Anna Johnson.
Lester lived in the Hartly area his whole life and is a native Delawarean.
Lester retired from Kraft General Foods in Dover, Delaware. Lester enjoyed his farm and farming. Lester was a firm believer in work hard, play harder. He loved playing music and thru the years played lead guitar with numerous bands. He had a great love for country music especially enjoying Vince Gill and Alan Jackson. Lester loved a party; above all Lester cherished the time spent with others. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and the mother of his children, Violet, and his eight siblings.
He is survived by his second wife, Jebba; his children, Earl Murray (Geri), Lester (Linda), John (Stephanie), Midge Hightman (Dan), Marvin (Michelle), and Melanie (Schooch); his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit with the family on Monday, August 7, 2023 from 10 AM to 11 AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice and their lovely and kind nurses and Dr. Eric Tamisis for the comfort and understanding, kindness and care he extended to Lester over the years.
Flowers are welcome and donations in his name may be made to Downs Chapel UMC, C/O Sharon Lockwood, 1200 Everett Rd., Marydel, MD 21649 or to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.
